Wanted: Southern Volunteer Board Member

By Karen Frost : submitted 21/01/2009

ILC Tas provides services across all parts of Tasmania including the Bass Strait islands. Therefore the Board should represent all parts of Tasmania as well. The current Board includes two members representing the North West and six members representing the North. ILC Tas requires a representative from Southern Tasmania to enable the organisation's management to be truly representative of the people we help.

The ILC Tas Board has recently completed a skills audit of its members and is pleased that a wide range of skills, experience and sector representation is part of the current Board.  The main skills or experience identified by the Board as being areas to target for future members include marketing experience and Southern Tasmania reperesentation.

We recently welcomed two new  Northern Board members Nick Gee and Gunter Breier.  Nick brings legal experience to the Board and Gunter has been a long serving ILC Tas member and past client of ILC Tas.

The Southern representative would ideally have experience in the Disability Sector and may be or have been a client, carer, friend, service provider or Allied Health Professional.  Anyone interested should feel free to apply and all applications will be welcomed.

Meetings are held bi-monthly on the third Tuesday  at 5pm starting in January and are based in Launceston.  Meetings can be attended by telephone or in person.  Reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed.   The Executive Officer, Karen Frost, can answer any questions about this.

Please see our ad under Volunteers for more information or contact us.

If you are not from the South and are interested in joining our Board in the future, please send your resume and a letter to us at 46 Canning Street, Launceston 7250 or by email.

A number of Board positions become vacant each year for re-election at our AGM in September and you may be eligible for nomination at that time.  We would love to have interested people ready for nomination or casual appointment if necessary to assist with our succession planning.

All applications will be considered.  Board members must become members of ILC Tas (see the membership section for more information).
